First, the video...
Now typically you would probably expect me to jump all over the cops and be like, "this is bullshit, kick their asses..." yadda yadda yadda... but seriously, watch the video a few times and listen to what the cop and kids are saying. There is a bulletin floating around that is asking for the cops removal and all this other HYPE and BULLSHIT to get people angry (funny that we dont send vids of George W around and get the same response)...
Now I have no idea what happened where that pic was taken from the beginning, but lets look at the obvious shit here... Apparently this was in downtown Hot Springs, Arkansas in a shopping district that has posted signs for "No Skateboarding", Let's be real... you got people walking up and down the street shopping, doing their thing... young, old, all that... so skateboarders could POTENTIALLY be a threat to ordinary people just minding their own business...
Sorry, but in my opinion these kids acted like complete idiots. No matter the fact of their ages... one was 13 and other was 14... there may have been younger involved, but its not clear... regardless, If you're in an area that has an ordinance that says "no skateboarding" then guess what... no skateboarding!
Technically if they are all skating where they aren't supposed to be, then they are all guilty. The kid that runs away (who apparently took the pic from before the vid started) is guilty of resisting. The cop takes the cuffed kid to a seat and a safer spot with more officers (since there were 5 kids with skateboards that could potentially get rowdy... and i dont know if you've ever been hit with a skateboard, but that shit can do some damage) he explains to the kid why he cuffed him then he clearly tells the blond girl to sit down, she says something and he reminds her that she is also breaking city ordinance. she runs (resisting) and the cop grabs her. done, thats it, she is no longer a little girl with a board, she just ran from the cops and resisted arrest... she did it to herself. Then the guy in white shirt feels like being a big man and jumps in (act of aggression towards the officer) and the officer acted accordingly and shut the kid down (nice job officer). Then the kid with the camera deliberately moves the camera AFTER the cop tells him to stay still... way to go kids, you just proved that you and your friends have no respect for the law or your city.
Im all for no skateboarding laws... I like watching skaters and skate vids, im a fan... but getting up in arms over this is bull... they weren't treated unfairly, they were treated the way their actions deemed them to be treated. There was no brutality, the cop didnt beat the crap out of them, if anything, big boy in the white shirt that got put down was the only true act of aggression... sorry, you're shit out of luck, pal. You think just because you're underage that you can mouth off to cops and cause a scene... think again.
The cop did his job.
This is not a case of a cop going nuts with power or picking on kids, this is just a case of kids being stupid.
Just because YOU think the law is bullshit, doesn't make it so.
If you want things to change, take another, more intelligent, route.
