My new laptop
Well, not really mine; given to me by my company to work on. Supposedly most powerful and feature-packed laptop model currently made by Hewlett-Packard. The only thing that is missing from its list of impressive features is a blu-ray drive (although it has a Dual-Layer one) as this option was not yet available by the Italian vendors we do business with.
This particular brand and model was mainly selected for its very strong security features, as it will be used to demonstrate a very secure confidential information access client. To name a few of its security features:
- Full HDD encryption
- Smart card reader
- Fingerprint Sensor
- TPM 1.2
- Device access manager
I have not yet evaluated its performance but, as is the usual case with HP notebooks, I get this feeling of flimsiness and non-convincing quality of materials and construction (don't imagine anything too bad). That is one of my two gripes with the product at this point. The other one is the fact that the DVD drive is not removable; the drive bay could be used to hold a secondary battery. 8710w does support a secondary battery but it is an external one that hooks under it (like a cushion).

SHIT LAPTOP - DON'T BUY!
I have had this laptop for a little more than a year now and it has already had two major issues:
1. A few months after I bought it (brand new) the HDD failed and I had to change it (covered by the 2-year warranty)
2. A month ago it started overheating and shutting down when doing something demanding. It is still covered by the warranty but WTF?
Other issue: buggy BIOS
Last time I buy an HP laptop.
