CMP Roserio: The Gray Zone

This is bit like the twilight zone, but spookier cuz it happens to be true!
If you live in Italy and decide to order something online from a non EU country, besides the absurdly high taxes that you will have to pay, you will have to wait for months before you see your package. Yup, you got that right! Months!
One has to wonder, is that just another failure of the Italian public sector or is it clandestine protectionism? Whatever the case, think twice before you order outside the EU.
For those speaking Italian the following link and video serve to illustrate the problem.

This is an Italian consumer protection NGO that may be helpful: http://www.generazioneattiva.it/

I actually drove down to the customs office, tailgated someone to get in and went and ranted at them before they finally gave me my goodies - not on the spot, even though they had them right there, but delivered to my place. Not only do they take months and charge outrageous taxes, they also expect you to be in all day to pick up your package AND have enough cash in the house to pay your taxes. If you aren't, or don't, they take it right back to the customs office 1 hour's drive away and you have to call them to make an appointment - except they NEVER answer the phone. Not ever. Also there is no possible way to contest their assessment of the value of your goods. No way at all.
